Since January 2025, I have been working with the Centre County Report, an award-winning, student-produced newscast that airs online, on WPSU-TV, and on streaming news channels in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. I edit film, create news packages, and update graphics for broadcasts. In addition, I serve as a social media producer, crafting headlines and managing content across various platforms, including X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

This past fall, I worked with the local Altoona station to develop my production skills, including camera setup, film editing, and creating news packages. I also conducted interviews with sources in the field. Additionally, I assisted with control room functions, observed the workflow of the rundown, and wrote scripts for my stories. I attended multiple local events and covered the discovery of Luigi Mangione at the Altoona Police Department.
As I enter my final year at Penn State, I’m more motivated than ever to make a meaningful contribution to my community. With so many opportunities at such a large university, I’ve discovered what matters most to me, giving back. That’s why I’m proud to be part of Students United Against Poverty, a student-run organization dedicated to supporting our community through fundraisers and volunteer work. Recently, I was elected to serve on both the Government and Community Relations team and the Financial Committee, where I can work to expand our outreach and increase our impact. It’s incredibly rewarding to volunteer alongside others who are passionate about making a difference, and I look forward to continuing this journey throughout the year.
I researched stories, verified facts, and provided background information to support news coverage. I monitored news wires, social media, and other sources for breaking news and story ideas. Attending daily editorial meetings, I contributed to discussions on potential stories.
I gained insight into various roles and career paths within the broadcast journalism field while adhering to journalistic ethics and standards to ensure accurate and fair reporting. This experience also helped me develop the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
I was accepted into Penn State's Hollywood program in March 2023 and moved to California in January 2024. During Q&A sessions, I asked questions and received practical advice from experts.Overall, the summit provided valuable learning experiences and networking opportunities that helped advance my sales skills and career.
In the summer of 2024, I was asked to join the Daily Collegian's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion board. Since then, my team and I have been working to create a more inclusive space within the newspaper while ensuring that our reporting is fair, accurate, and representative of all corners of the community. To achieve this, we are developing new initiatives and analyzing data to identify and address any gaps in our coverage.
This was another internship I completed while in California.
During my time across the country I had the pleasure of interning with The Wrap, a company that covers entertainment media. I have written multiple articles, all of which are published on their website.
One of the most crucial aspects of the broadcasting industry is production. As I pursue my dream of being in the news industry, understanding the behind-the-camera tasks is essential. In September 2023, I joined CommAgency, Penn State's student-run creative agency, where I have had the opportunity to work with professional equipment and real-life clients.
Simple Bars Co. is a start-up in the food industry based in Nashville, Tennessee. This internship taught me a great deal about promotional marketing outreach and essential sales techniques. It was an enriching experience where I gained new skills, created sales presentations, conducted research, and developed potential sales pitches for various products. Additionally, my promotional videos have been published on their website.
In the fall of 2024, I was asked to be a part of the FOX Big Noon Kickoff at Penn State. As a production assistant and runner for the sports show, I learned behind-the-camera duties and the setup and breakdown process of an outdoor broadcasting event.
In May 2023, I was accepted into Penn State University's Study Abroad program in the Czech Republic. During my trip, I learned about international relations and globalization. Featuring episodes on gratitude, self-help strategies, and insights from professionals, the podcast empowers students to take control of their mental health and fosters a supportive community.
IIn September 2022, I was invited by a colleague to join Penn State University's pioneering live television show focused on political TV journalism. The "Politics Panel" was designed to emulate a real news show political panel format. The show featured student political leaders and covered both the midterm elections and various significant political events. From a student perspective, it is vital to discuss relevant and impactful topics in the United States, and the "Politics Panel" introduced a fresh, engaging segment to Penn State Network News.

As misinformation proliferates, it increasingly hinders adolescents' ability to discern between falsehoods and facts. The rise of misinformation and emotionally charged topics in the U.S., particularly through media channels, underscores the need for better critical thinking skills. In my speech, I advocated for the incorporation of Media Literacy courses to equip students with the tools necessary to evaluate the credibility of information effectively.
